The BeerTrekker is a global photography and storytelling project dedicated to documenting the culture, people, and places behind craft beer.
Founded by photographer Miguel Rivas, The BeerTrekker captures the stories of brewers, hop growers, festivals, and beer communities around the world. Through photography and editorial storytelling, the project explores how beer connects people, places, and traditions.
For more than a decade, Miguel has traveled globally documenting breweries, beer festivals, competitions, and the broader craft beverage culture. His work focuses on the human side of beer, the passion, craftsmanship, and communities that make the industry unique.
His photography has been published in prestigious industry magazines like Beeradvocate, Hop Culture, Craftbeer.com, Craft Beer & Brewing as well as New York Magazine, Plate Magazine and several blogs and other publications like the third edition of the best selling book The World Atlas of Beer. He has also a collaborated for Good Beer Hunting.
Miguel has also served as the official photographer to some of the premier beer festivals around the world like BXL Beer Fest in Belgium, 8x8 Beer Project in China, Shelton Brothers The Festival, Festival de Cervezas Extremas and Festival de la Cosecha del Lupulo in Argentina, Encontro Selvagem and Primavera ZalaZ in Brasil, Lupulin Carnival in Missouri, Micro Brew Fest in Panama, Beeradvocate Extreme Beer Fest in Massachusetts, Five Boro Craft Beer Fest in New York City, the Great American Beer Festival in Colorado and the World Beer Cup among many others.
Since 2017 Miguel has been invited as a beer judge and the official photographer to some of the most important beer competitions in Latin America and Europe like Indie Beer Cup in Costa Rica and Panama, Copa Cervecera Mitad del Mundo in Ecuador, Aro Rojo in Mexico, Festival de Cerveceros Artesanales, Copa Cervezas del Café and Copa Tayrona in Colombia, Inka Beer Cup in Perú and CICA in Spain.
Miguel is often invited to industry podcasts such as Good Beer Hunting, Beer Sessions Radio on the Heritage Radio Network, SweetN’ Up and The Food Engineer as well as panels for Travel + Social Good to talk about cultivating relationships, photography, story telling and the power of social media in the craft beer industry, branding and brand recognition.
